Bronte is unique due to its east-facing position, which allows it to pick up swell from any direction. However, the bulky headlands to the north and south and clusters of underwater rocks make conditions challenging, especially for swimmers. The south headland shapes Bronte’s premium wave, but it breaks across rocks so it’s for confident board-riders only. These same rocks create a sheltered natural pool beloved of parents with young kids.

Bronte offers an ocean-fed lap pool tucked in beneath the south headland, providing one of Sydney’s finest saltwater swim experiences. There is also a wide grassy park behind the beach that has barbecues and picnic tables. The park gives way to a wooded gully between rows of expensive houses on the opposing hillsides. There are also a few restaurants and Coffee Shops nearby.

Visitors have reported enjoying the sunrise at Bronte, with many swimmers and walkers present even at that early hour. However, it is recommended to avoid visiting on extremely busy days like Christmas Day.

Besides swimming, Bronte is a great spot for snorkelling. The cliffs at Bronte also make for fascinating structures for great photos. There is also a coastal walk to Bondi which is considered spectacular.

While Bronte is considered a safe spot for night swims at the rock pools, visitors should be aware that the water in the free swimming pool can be really cold and deep. Also, the beach's premium wave breaks across rocks, making it suitable for confident board-riders only.
